It\u2019s not clear when the sister died.<\/p>\n<p>There was one problem. The bank said \u201cwithdrawals by a third party are not permitted without proper authorization,\u201d meaning in short that Munda needed a death certificate before he could access his sister\u2019s money.<\/p>\n<p>Evidently uninterested in obtaining one, Munda instead dug up his sister\u2019s body and carried it to the bank in lieu of a death certificate.<\/p>\n<p><strong>*Graphic content*<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">He was told to \u201cbring the account holder.\u201d So he did.<\/p>\n<p>Jitu Munda exhumed his sister\u2019s skeleton and carried it to an Odisha Rural Bank to withdraw her last \u20b919,300.<\/p>\n<p>A chilling story of poverty and red tape.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/OdishaNews?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#OdishaNews<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Keonjhar?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Keonjhar<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Shocking?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Shocking<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/FinancialInclusion?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#FinancialInclusion<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Odisha?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Odisha<\/a>\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/izRLa3dnCh\">pic.twitter.com\/izRLa3dnCh<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 MdShakeel(PingTV) (@PingtvIndia) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PingtvIndia\/status\/2049026285247316350?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 28, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cTelevision networks broadcast footage of Munda carrying what appeared to be a corpse partially wrapped in plastic, with skeletal legs visible and slung over his shoulder,\u201d CBS notes.<\/p>\n<p>The bank said in a statement that his actions \u201ccreated a highly distressing situation at the premises.\u201d The bank also accused Munda of having a \u201clack of awareness\u201d as to proper procedures.<\/p>\n<p>Sadly for Munda, he still remains without the money.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe claim will be settled on (with) priority, once the death certificate is submitted,\u201d the bank said.<\/p>\n<p>However, the police are reportedly trying to work with him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFollowing the controversy, police officials reportedly coordinated efforts to support Jitu Munda in completing the withdrawal process through the correct legal channels,\u201d according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lokmattimes.com\/national\/odisha-man-brings-dead-sisters-skeleton-to-bank-to-withdraw-rs20000-in-keonjhar-watch-video-a525\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lokmat Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe skeletal remains of his sister were later reburied at the graveyard under police supervision, bringing a temporary closure to an incident that exposed gaps in communication and awareness regarding banking procedures in remote tribal communities,\u201d the outlet reported.<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s crazy is that something similar occurred only months earlier in February, when a South African family brought the body of their grandmother, Elizabeth Maliwa, in a body bag to a Capitec Bank branch, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/capetimes.co.za\/news\/2026-02-19-funeral-policy-dispute-leads-to-corpse-being-brought-to-capitec-bank-two-women-charged\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cape Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>They brought her body to the bank as \u201cproof of death\u201d for a funeral insurance policy claim after the bank allegedly delayed payout and demanded further documentation despite submitted documents.<\/p>\n\n<p>(Video Credit: True Crime Julia)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReports indicate that the family had two policies with the bank for their grandmother; one was paid out and the second was pending verification due to an unclear funeral parlour stamp,\u201d the local police said in a statement. \u201cThe family brought the deceased\u2019s body to the bank using a funeral parlour\u2019s vehicle, causing disturbance and intimidation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Two women, reportedly Maliwa\u2019s granddaughters, drove her body in a mortuary vehicle to the bank, and then proceeded to wheel the body inside the bank on a stretcher.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe police confirmed that the women are facing charges of extortion, disturbance, and intimidation,\u201d the Cape Times reported.<\/p>\n<p>Two years earlier in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, a woman brought a dead 68-year-old man in a wheelchair into a bank to ostensibly have him sign for a loan, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/americas\/woman-wheels-corpse-into-brazil-bank-sign-loan-2024-04-17\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reuters<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUncle, are you listening? You need to sign,\u201d she told the dead body in front of the bank staff. \u201cHe doesn\u2019t say anything, that\u2019s just how he is. If you\u2019re not okay, I\u2019m going to take you to the hospital.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The bank staffers reportedly became suspicious and called the cops because the dead man\u2019s head kept falling back whenever the woman stopped holding it.<\/p>\n<p>The woman claimed the man had died right there at the bank, but forensic investigators later determined that was a lie.<\/p>\n<p>That same year, an Ohio woman, Karen Casbohm, and her friend Loreen Feralo took the dead body of their roommate, 80-year-old Douglas Layman, to the bank to withdraw $900 from his account after they found him dead, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/jailed-ohio-woman-shares-why-she-drove-dead-man-body-to-bank-8608946\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">People<\/a> magazine.<\/p>\n<p>Casbohm later admitted to what she\u2019d done during a jailhouse phone call with a relative.<\/p>\n<p>In a press release shared with People magazine, local police said: \u201cThe two women have both been charged with gross abuse of a corpse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/americanwirenews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/sg-indian-man-1200x630.jpg\" title=\"Man digs up sister\u2019s body, hauls it into the bank to prove she\u2019s dead\" \/><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A man from India reportedly dug up his sister\u2019s body so he could prove to a bank that she was dead.
