{"id":593252,"date":"2026-04-29T15:03:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-29T15:03:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/buglecall.org\/?p=593252"},"modified":"2026-04-29T15:03:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-29T15:03:08","slug":"ucla-official-threatens-conservative-students-with-discipline-if-they-identify-disruptive-liberal-protesters-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buglecall.org\/?p=593252","title":{"rendered":"UCLA official threatens Conservative students with discipline if they identify disruptive liberal protesters"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"630\" src=\"https:\/\/americanwirenews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/sg-extremists-1200x630.jpg\" class=\"attachment-facebook size-facebook wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" \/><\/div>\n<p>The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) is under fire for trying to protect the identity of left-wing extremist students.<\/p>\n<p>When Department of Homeland Security (DHS) attorney James Percival appeared at the school on April 21 to speak at a Federalist Society event, left-wing extremist students repeatedly interrupted him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYesterday, DHS General Counsel James Percival came to UCLA School of Law for a good-faith academic discussion and was met with personal attacks, repeated interruptions, and organized disruption that prevented him from speaking,\u201d UCLA Federalist Society chapter President Matthew Weinberg told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/watch-chaos-erupts-leftists-interrupt-conservative-groups-ucla-event-featuring-dhs-lawyer-\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox News<\/a> at the time.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Truly abhorrent and unimaginable behavior today at the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FedSocUCLA?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@FedSocUCLA<\/a> event that hosted a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DHSgov?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@DHSgov<\/a> lawyer. Leftist students repeatedly disrupted the event, yelled profanities, shouted, made their phones ping incessantly, and eventually stormed out to a rally that violated all time,\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/DxqubGVleB\">pic.twitter.com\/DxqubGVleB<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 YitzyFrankel (@YitZionist) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/YitZionist\/status\/2046734277535220174?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 21, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>A day after the event, UCLA\u2019s assistant dean for student affairs, Bayrex Marti, sent Weinberg an email warning him against publicly identifying the extremists.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have \u2026 seen requests online to identify students in the audience who are visible in video recordings,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/ucla-official-warns-conservative-law-students-face-discipline-identifying-liberal-protesters\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a>. \u201cI would strongly encourage you and other organizers to not disclose those details.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that if this information was shared and the extremists subsequently faced any sort of harassment, the Federalist Society would pay a steep price.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf that information is shared despite the tenor of some online commentary, and an implicated student reports behavior from anyone that falls under prohibited behavior per the Student Code of Conduct, the student organization and\/or individual students could be connected to it (the allegation being that the outcome was reasonably predictable when the names were disclosed) and subjected to campus processes,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The email did not please the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE), which has since sent the school a letter demanding it retract its threat against the Federalist Society\u2019s UCLA chapter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs painful as online criticism may be at times, UCLA may not restrict protected speech merely to shield student protesters from the consequences of their actions,\u201d FIRE wrote.<\/p>\n<p>FIRE also accused the school of practicing a double standard, noting that while UCLA officials were in a rush to protect left-wing extremists, they had no qualms about Federalist Society chapter members being identified and mocked online.<\/p>\n<p>The school has, for its part, chosen to defend its behavior.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUCLA Law is committed to free speech and academic freedom, including perspectives that may be controversial or deeply contested,\u201d the school said in a statement. \u201cThis student-organized event, which proceeded to its conclusion, was one instance of those principles in practice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe law school worked with the Office of Campus and Community Safety in advance to support the event and uphold the university\u2019s commitment to the free exchange of ideas,\u201d the statement continued.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">What happened at <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/UCLA_Law?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@UCLA_law<\/a> undermines a university\u2019s basic function.<\/p>\n<p>Students have every right to object, question, and peacefully protest invited speakers. But sustained disruption preventing others from hearing a speaker has no place at a university committed to free inquiry.\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/0i4ZbxB1tl\">pic.twitter.com\/0i4ZbxB1tl<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 FIRE (@TheFIREorg) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TheFIREorg\/status\/2046981888602996805?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 22, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Speaking on Fox News\u2019 \u201cThe Will Cain Show\u201d after his UCLA appearance, Percival said the experience was \u201cnot pleasant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI might get death threats when I go on a college campus, but the people I work with at DHS get death threats just for showing up to work every day,\u201d he added. \u201cI really felt like I had an obligation to the people I work with not to back down, to show up and take some abuse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The behavior of the extremist students was so bad that the Wall Street Journal\u2019s editorial board <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/opinion\/ucla-law-school-students-james-percival-federalist-society-greg-mcneal-23bedd65\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">called them out<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you thought the heyday of cancel culture and infantile behavior on campus had passed, welcome to the University of California, Los Angeles Law School,\u201d the board wrote in a recent opinion piece.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUCLA\u2019s Administrative Policies and Procedures note that UCLA \u2018respects freedom-of-speech, including the lawful freedom-to-protest,\u2019 but that \u2018protests may not be so disruptive as to silence the invited speaker from communicating with a willing audience.\u2019 If those words mean anything, the school will identify the students who disrupted the event and hand them more than a slap on the wrist,\u201d the board added.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/americanwirenews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/sg-extremists-1200x630.jpg\" title=\"UCLA official threatens Conservative students with discipline if they identify disruptive liberal protesters\" \/><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) is under fire for trying to protect the identity of left-wing extremist students.
