It has\u00a0barred its exporters from supplying dual-use items to <strong>seven EU firms<\/strong>, including FN Herstal and Omnipol a.s., according to a statement from the Chinese commerce ministry.<\/p>\n<p>The ministry said the measure <strong>targets European defense companies that previously sold arms to Taiwan or maintained links with it<\/strong>, and stated the restrictions will not affect normal economic and trade exchanges with the European Union.<\/p>\n<p><a data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/dualuse.jpeg?itok=kvU2NYnc\" data-link-option=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/dualuse.jpeg?itok=kvU2NYnc\"><\/a><\/p>\n<figure role=\"group\" class=\"caption caption-img inline-images image-style-inline-images\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"2d84dd98-c3e2-4987-ad38-500d325a4674\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/dualuse.jpeg?itok=kvU2NYnc\" width=\"500\" \/><figcaption><em>Chinese media file image<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Beijing said it will continue working with other countries to safeguard peace and maintain a stable global supply chain, in its usual boilerplate rhetoric directed at the West regarding Taiwan, which China sees as its own.<\/p>\n<p>Other firms named include Hensoldt AG, Excalibur Army, SpaceKnow Inc., VZLU Aerospace, and FN Browning. The companies are mostly based in Czech Republic, Belgium, and Germany.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The MOFCOM spokesperson emphasized that the legally mandated export control measures target only a small number of EU entities involved in military affairs, entities that have participated in arms sales to Taiwan island or colluded with Taiwan authorities, and the measures only target dual-use items,&#8221; state-run <em>Global Times<\/em> described further, in reference to\u00a0China&#8217;s Ministry of Commerce.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They will not affect normal trade and economic exchanges between China and the EU, and<strong> law-abiding EU entities have absolutely nothing to worry about<\/strong>,&#8221; it added, citing the Commerce spokesperson.<\/p>\n<p>All the while, Beijing has kept up its fiery denunciations, making clear there&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>&#8220;no space&#8221; for ambiguity<\/strong>\u00a0on what China sees as its territory (Taiwan).<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, Chinese leader\u00a0Xi Jinping\u00a0had welcomed the leader of Taiwan\u2019s main opposition party for a rare direct meeting in the Chinese capital.<\/p>\n<p>The symbolism of the timing couldn&#8217;t be missed,\u00a0<strong>as Xi invited Nationalist Party Chairwoman\u00a0Cheng Li-wun\u00a0to China ahead of the planned big mid-May summit with President\u00a0Trump<\/strong>\u00a0in which the Chinese leader could continue a push to dilute Washington&#8217;s support for Taiwan.<\/p>\n<p>However, the <strong>Trump-Xi meeting is still anything but assured as moving forward<\/strong>, given the ongoing Iran war and very uneasy ceasefire with little evidence of an offramp in sight.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Also, Washington has suddenly this week charged Beijing with\u00a0<strong>stealing US artificial \u200bintelligence labs&#8217; intellectual property on an &#8220;industrial scale&#8221;<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\" xml:lang=\"en\">China&#8217;s Foreign Ministry on Taiwan:<\/p>\n<p>There is but one China in the world.
