{"id":590710,"date":"2026-04-23T08:15:00","date_gmt":"2026-04-23T08:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/buglecall.org\/?p=590710"},"modified":"2026-04-23T08:15:00","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T08:15:00","slug":"outrage-after-von-der-leyen-groups-turkey-into-malign-axis-with-russia-china-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buglecall.org\/?p=590710","title":{"rendered":"Outrage After Von Der Leyen Groups Turkey Into Malign Axis With Russia, China"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">Outrage After Von Der Leyen Groups Turkey Into Malign Axis With Russia, China<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p>Turkey&#8217;s government as well as some members of the European Parliament on Wednesday criticized recent remarks by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen suggesting <strong>Europe should not fall under the influence of Russia, Turkey, or China<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; calling the comments misleading and divisive.<\/p>\n<p>Von der Leyen on Monday had <strong>casually grouped NATO member Turkey with China and Russia as malign influences <\/strong>on the continent, which contradicts the fact that the EU has relied on Turkey to play a key diplomatic role in the Ukraine war, as well as to absorb war refugees from the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p>She had in the remarks declared that the EU <strong>&#8220;must succeed in completing the European continent so that it is not influenced by Russia, Turkey or China.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/vondrtukry.jpeg?itok=wt4JAYNe\" data-link-option=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/vondrtukry.jpeg?itok=wt4JAYNe\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"b55b803f-af8c-4f31-a58a-03a396878e50\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" height=\"300\" width=\"500\" class=\"inline-images image-style-inline-images\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/vondrtukry.jpeg?itok=wt4JAYNe\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>She then urged Europe to <strong>&#8220;think bigger and more geopolitically&#8221; <\/strong>when it comes to the continent getting away from cheap Russian energy and low-cast Chinese labor. <strong>She argued for greater European independence<\/strong>, also amid tensions with the Trump administration.<\/p>\n<p>Lawmakers from the Left Group in the European Parliament, including Belgian members Rudi Kennes and Marc Botenga, took Turkey&#8217;s side and slammed the\u00a0remarks as <strong>&#8220;both inaccurate and very strange,&#8221;<\/strong> emphasizing that Turkey is a NATO ally and maintains multifaceted relations with the European Union.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Turkey is still officially a candidate country for EU membership,&#8221;<\/strong> the officials noted. &#8220;These kinds of statements serve to split the world into &#8216;us&#8217; and &#8216;others,&#8217; as if there were some kind of <strong>purity test<\/strong>, and as if there were an intention to control the rest of the continent,&#8221; Botenga said.<\/p>\n<p>Botenga further\u00a0warned that framing international relations as &#8220;friends versus enemies&#8221; poses significant risks for global stability. One source also underscored why Brussels was quick to try and do damage control in an <a href=\"https:\/\/eualive.net\/von-der-leyens-slip-up-equating-turkey-with-russia-and-china-sparks-diplomatic-tremors\/\">EU presser<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em><strong>This rapid clarification underscores Brussels\u2019 awareness of the sensitivity<\/strong>. Turkey remains a vital partner on multiple fronts: migration management, Black Sea security, energy transit, and regional stability.
