He decided to travel to Guatemala to meet the family of immigrants to whom he had granted asylum, carrying with him a bouquet of flowers.<\/p>\n<p>Look:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Five months after he was fired as a U.S. immigration judge, Jeremiah Johnson found himself rumbling into the highlands of Guatemala on a crowded bus, a bouquet of flowers in hand.<\/p>\n<p>His unusual, if poetic, mission: to visit relatives of an indigenous family who fled their village\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/CzOz4IgFlN\">pic.twitter.com\/CzOz4IgFlN<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 USA TODAY (@USATODAY) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/USATODAY\/status\/2046217022615289968?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 20, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cHis unusual, if poetic, mission: to visit relatives of an indigenous family who fled their village for the United States and won asylum in his courtroom,\u201d the outlet wrote.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cJohnson, 52, served nearly a decade as an immigration judge in San Francisco, in a famously liberal circuit, hearing hundreds of asylum cases. Day in, day out, he heard stories of political and religious persecution, torture, violence, rape.
