U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent today allowed a Biden-era waiver on the allowance for U.S. banks to process Russian energy transactions to lapse.
Bessent made significant press this week saying he would not hesitate to tighten the screws on Russia to force a deal.
Trump envoy Steve Witkoff is in Moscow and recently met with Russian officials, attempting to find a way to push the peace process forward.
Zelenskiy used Putin’s comments after the meetings to attempt to sabotage any peace deal that might emerge.
It is obvious Russia wants the war to end and was waiting for a Trump presidency before pushing harder in Eastern Ukraine, and removing the Zelenskiy regime.
We wait and see if the Trump moves are just theater or Trump actually thinks he can pressure Moscow and has leverage.
